Welcome

A Short-Term Rental is commonly accepted as a rental of all or part of a dwelling for less than 28 days regardless of whether longer term stays are also offered. These rentals are often viewed as bed and breakfasts, cottages, and the renting of a room within a residence. These types of accommodations have increased in popularity in the past decade with rising availability of online platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, Ontario Cottage Rentals (OCR), and Facebook which allow individuals to easily run a small business.

The City of Port Colborne is asking owners of Short-Term Rentals to register their properties with the City to assist with communication outreach, ensuring a positive experience for owners, renters, and the community at large.

Here are a few definitions that may be helpful to know before proceeding with your registration:

"Rental Unit" shall mean a room, area, suite of rooms or dwelling unit, as the case may be, offered by a Short-Term Rental Business for use by the travelling public in exchange for the payment of a fee.

“Short-Term Rental” shall mean a Business that offers a place of temporary residence, lodging, or occupancy by way of concession, permit, lease, rental agreement, or similar commercial arrangement for any period less than twenty-eight (28) consecutive calendar days, regardless of whether longer term stays are also offered;

“Dwelling” or “Dwelling Unit” shall mean a suite operated as a housekeeping unit, used or intended to be used as a home by one or more persons and usually containing cooking, eating, living, sleeping and sanitary facilities as set out in the Ontario Building Code.

Note:  If you own more than one property please fill out the form again to capture all of the Short-Term Rentals under your ownership.
